Getting Started: A Beginner's Guide
New to the game? Learn it in this order.
Start slow in Marathon mode. Low levels have pieces falling slowly, which is great for practicing movement and rotation. First, get a feel for keeping the surface flat and clearing lines one at a time.
Remembering which spots suit which piece — S and Z on staircases, O on flat ground, I in the right-side well — reduces the number of gaps you leave behind.
Avoiding gaps (holes) is the single most important thing. Once a hole forms, it's hard to clear the row above it, so build the habit of checking the landing spot with the ghost piece rather than placing pieces hastily.
